Pair of vintage French ceramic bookends by Figurines de Paris, featuring whimsical hand-painted Parisian street scenes with elongated fashionable figures seated beside Paris lamp posts.
One bookend retains an original “Fait Main / Made in France / Hand Made” label and is impressed on the underside “FIGURINES DE PARIS – MADE IN FRANCE” and “FAIT MAIN – HAND MADE.”
The companion piece is unmarked but matches in construction, scale, subject matter and styling and appears to form the complementary half of the set.
Each scene is individually modeled and hand painted, with charming mid-century details including an artist with palette, fashionable clothing, benches and Paris street signs. Excellent examples of postwar French decorative ceramic design.
Condition: Vintage condition with age-related wear and minor surface imperfections consistent with handmade ceramics. Please review photographs carefully for exact condition.
