Description
Original 1909 first Edmund Dulac trade edition of Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám, rendered into English verse by Edward FitzGerald and published in London by Hodder & Stoughton.
This highly collectible Golden Age illustrated edition features 20 mounted color plates by renowned illustrator Edmund Dulac, and all 20 plates are present in this copy.
The title page features elaborate decorative ornamentation, while the color plates and decorative borders were printed by Henry Stone & Son Ltd., Banbury, England. The text was printed from FitzGerald’s second edition by permission of Macmillan & Co.
Presented in the original gilt-decorated cloth binding.
Condition: Antique condition with age-related wear, discoloration, staining, foxing, and general surface wear. The front inner hinge is significantly weakened/separated, with visible splitting and loss along the gutter near the front board, as shown in the photos. The binding remains attached but should be handled carefully. Despite the binding wear, the book is complete with all 20 Edmund Dulac color plates present. Please review all photos closely for condition.
A desirable original 1909 edition for collectors of Edmund Dulac, Golden Age illustration, antique books, and Omar Khayyám.
