Beautiful antique precision beam balance housed in its original-style wooden and glass enclosure. These sensitive balances were used in pharmacies, laboratories, universities, jewelers, and scientific settings for accurately weighing very small quantities.
The scale features a brass center column, long precision balance beam, two suspended metal weighing pans, adjustment hardware, and a graduated indicator scale at the base. The surrounding glass case protected the delicate mechanism from air currents that could affect measurements.
The substantial wooden cabinet has glass panels on multiple sides and a lower storage drawer, giving the piece excellent display presence. The wood shows considerable patina, scratches, staining, finish wear and other age-related imperfections, all consistent with an antique scientific instrument.
The balance mechanism appears substantially present from the photographs, although I would list it as untested and sold as-is unless you’ve confirmed that it operates and balances correctly. Any original weights or accessories should be mentioned separately if you find them in the drawer.
